In the last episode of the current series of Mission Survive starring Bear Grylls it was interesting that Vogue Williams of Atomic Kitten fame was the winner and who’d have thought that she would win against all the odds and all the competition! Well done indeed!
In conversation following that brief yet tense moment when Bear was making his decision on the person most likely to survive, he said that at times like these it makes you realise that “Things” actually don’t matter – what matters are the people you share your life and experiences with.
How true! But how many people miss this very simple yet crucial truth. We can all at one time or another be guilty of chasing after things we are convinced we “need” – even when logic would tell us otherwise.
Marketing and its cousin Advertising both spend their time convincing the general public that they need and must have things. Too often people can be convinced they will not be happy unless they can acquire the latest version of this or that.
People with all kinds of wealth from a little to a lot can “acquire the desire” for things to help them on their journey to what they hope will be the ultimate happiness – however misguided this notion may appear. They ignore the known fact that things in themselves cannot create happiness.
(It has been said that the human being is actually hard wired to live in relationship with others and to share life and values and support with others – as the quip goes – “for best results, share…”)
More to the point- they can very often ignore the fact that their assets are not actually keeping pace with their increasingly expensive lifestyle. Eventually – if it goes unchecked – this lifestyle will lead to one place – debt. DEBT.
…and debt attracts interest…and more interest…
Unmanaged debt is like an open wound left to fester – the longer it is left the worse it gets and if you don’t pay attention to it, clean it up or clear it then it can become chronic and very difficult to deal with and it can literally take over your life.
There have been countless examples of famous and wealthy celebrity personalities who have suddenly been flung into the media spotlight because – even with all their wealth – they have been bankrupted by their lifestyle.
Make sure you take care to maintain your house -keep your house in order, including the control you have over debt and also the control you must make sure you have over addictive spending on things which are becoming a drain on your finances.
It really doesn’t matter how many millions you have in the bank or how many millions you believe you are going to earn – whether you are a footballer TV personality entertainer rock musician or seriously wealthy lawyer – if you recognise the signs at an early stage, you could save yourself a lot of heartache later on
Here at SewellBrydenGunn we believe that effective lifetime financial planning is the key to growing managing and maintaining your life’s wealth. It boils down to time and the provision for it – time you have to live your life, time you need to save and accumulate, time you may not have and the assets you have to provide for you, your family and all you care about.
If you will only respect your time and treat your life with a high measure of honesty and integrity you will find that you can transform your life into a more worthwhile existence, have a happier state of mind and better relationships with the people around you who you care about and who care about you
Here at SewellBrydenGunn we believe in one simple well-defined philosophy which is the core of our message to Clients
Do everything purposefully and be honest about your expectations and the obstacles or questions you face.
