About the Founder

Founder, Principal and Client Director, Neil Sewell (@NeilASewell) set up his advisory firm in 1997, having recognised the real need of both people and businesses for accessible, friendly and professional independent and unbiased advice of a high quality and high value.

In addition to running his firm, Neil is a highly experienced professional Independent Financial Planner and Investment Adviser and is one among a relatively small exclusive group of highly qualified advisers who have achieved Chartered Financial Planner status, “the Gold Standard in excellence and integrity” (Chartered Insurance Institute). Neil is also a Wealth Manager, an Associate of the Personal Finance Society, an Associate of the Institute of Financial Planning, and a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments, all by examination.

Neil is the Principal Adviser and advises in all the Key Advice Areas that the firm undertakes. Neil also writes comment and articles on a variety of topics of financial interest.

His areas of expertise include pension analysis research and review, pension sharing orders (divorce), pension funding, retirement options, tax, business financial planning, investment planning, investment portfolio design implementation and review, personal protection, cash flow planning, residential and commercial finance, releasing capital from your home (lifetime mortgages), Financial Planning, Inheritance Tax (IHT) and estate planning, funding for long term care and trustee investment. As well as being an FCA authorised Pension Transfer Specialist, Neil is also an FCA Authorised Long Term Care Specialist and holds the specialist care fees planning qualification, CF8 and the specialist equity release (lifetime mortgages) planning qualification CF7.

Neil holds a Joint Honours Degree in Mathematics, Accounting and Financial Administration with Law. Neil is also a business graduate and holds the coveted Masters in Business Administration (MBA) post graduate degree.

Additional relevant qualifications by examination include: the Advanced Financial Planning Certificate, Certificate in Financial Planning and Long Term Care Insurance, Certificate in Financial Planning and Equity Release Mortgages, Advanced Papers in Taxation and Trusts, Pensions and also the Advance Paper in Investment Portfolio Management.

In addition to his “day job”, Neil has held a number of key “Honorary” positions in not for profit organisations at the Chairman, Treasurer or Finance Director level. He most recently completed five years as Hon. Treasurer and Finance Director at one of the larger church organisations in the Camberley, Surrey area close to home.

Key areas of activity across a number of not for profit organisations have included: Raising organisation profile, enabling better practice, overhauling the annual programme of events, focussing the organisational vision, implementation of business management workshops and training seminars, installing cost control systems and procedures, accounts computerisation, report and final accounts production, preparing for and dealing with audits, engaging with sponsored charities, installing secure online corporate banking, increasing organisation membership through improving the offering and communication, engaging with, liaising and negotiating with other key interested relevant or connected parties and organisations to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.

Other exploits have included coaching a local youth football team and helping out with other youth activities. However Neil feels his biggest recent contribution has been as a taxi service for his children! “They’re not at home for ever – make the most of it!

When he is not working, Neil enjoys spending quality time with family and friends, playing the piano, walking, swimming, occassional fly coarse and sea fishing and sailing. He also aspires to gain his Ocean Yachtmasters certificate “sometime soon!”
